Chateau Musar 2009
Chateau Musar is not a French creation, neither Italian or Spanish. We need to travel back in time to a place where the very first vines were tamed by man 6000 B.C. A place that spawned the creation and trading of wine all over the world, but it all started in Lebanon where Chateau Musar originates from.
Chateau Musar was founded in 1930 by Gaston Hochar. He was strongly influenced and inspired by his travels to Bordeaux, but also the Lebaneese cultural heritage as an old wine producing country.
He established a life long friendship with Major Ronal Barton when he was stationed at Chateau Lang Barton in World War 2.
Gaston Hochars oldest son Serge Hochar followed in his fathers footsteps and traveled to Bordeaux so he could educate himself to become a winemaker. He took over as a winemaker in the company in 1959.
He was a very visionary man with great plans and ideas. Serge managed to elevate Chateau Musar to become known in the entire world for its high focus on quality.
Sadly Serge Hochar suddenly died in a swimming accident in 2015, but his two sons Gaston and Marc Hochard has taken over the company and still produces world class wines.
The wines are always very aromatic on the nose with several layers of complexity, with a special ability to develop in the glass. The aromatic and intense flavour of dark berries, spices, herbs and leather makes these wines such a perfect to companion to Lamb dishes.
Chateau Musars top wines are stored for eight years before they are released on the market. This makes them ready to drink straight off the shelves. But this doesn't mean that they are finished developing. The wines can be stored for decades, developing more and more complexity.
This is "The Grand Cru" of Chateau Musar. All the of the craftsmanship and commitment is in this bottle. A well balanced wine with intense aromas of dark plums, ripe blackberries, green herbs, cloves and leather. Intens flavour with a long developed and complex finish.
