Wine of the Month
Weinert Malbec 2006
This wine is excellent with barbeque, and there are several reasons for this. Firstly it has a great ripe tannin structure, it has fullness and firmess with a nicely balanced finish. It is made of 100% Malbec from the classical land of barbeque, Argentina. The food and wine culture in this beautiful country has evolved around meat and fire. The Malbec grape is originally from Bordeaux in France, but the Argentinians has adopted it and made it their own.
Cavas de Weinert are located at the foot of the Andes mountains in the city of Mendoza in Argentina. With a passion and inspiration from Bordeaux winemaking, Bernardo came here in the mid 70s to produce wine at a time when Argentina was mostly known for cheap bulk wine production. Bernardo believed in bot the Malbec grape and himself, dedicated to create originale wines. Thanks to American wine writer Robert Parker, his wines received great reviews giving them an upturn very early.
Today the wines have achieved cult status thanks to Robert Parker, but also a gifted Swiss winemaker by the name of Hubert Weber, who started to work at Cavas Weinert in 1996.
